How Do I Cover for another interpreter?

Slack Channel

You can contact other VIs in the swap-vi channel on Slack and see if any interpreters are interested in swapping shifts with you. If your shift needs adjustment, please email shiftchange@ for further support.

Time Sensitive Coverage:

  • Time sensitive Splitting shifts: If you are waiting to split a shift or pick up a split shift, you can move forward with working it as long as you have communicated with Shiftchange@ (CC-ing all parties who have agreed to the shifts) You will be able to clock in without a scheduled shift. We can align your shift to your timecards either that same day or the next one.

Frequently Asked Questions:

FAQ #1 - When I take a shift from a VI in a different time zone, do I need to calculate the time difference?

Answer: No, the shift will show up in your default time zone.

FAQ #2 - What do I need to do if I am unable to work my shift?

Answer: You can request a drop shift or request a shift cover. When requesting a shift cover, you will need to assign a swap/cover request to a specific person. You will also be able to assign this request to multiple persons (this will be on a first-come-first-served basis). See Rippling Help Center article on how to request a scheduling shift cover.

If you need additional support with shift adjustments or coverages, please email shiftchange@convorelay.com

FAQ #3 - What is the purpose of the swap-vi channel in slack now?

Answer: You can announce in the swap-vi channel that you are looking for shifts for a particular day or time. You can also announce that you are looking for someone to cover your shift. If you find someone willing to take it, then you can assign a shift cover request to that person.

FAQ #4 - How do I swap my shifts directly to someone else?

Answer: With Rippling, swapping your shift means you are trading your shift for another person’s shift. See Rippling Help Center article on how to request a scheduling shift swap. Remember, there are no open swaps, you must trade or assign your shift with a specific VI

FAQ #5 - Can OVN Shifts be swapped out?

Answer: OVN shifts can be swapped out, please refer to the Overnight Guidelines article for guidance on procedures.
